Overview

Treating a casualty with Paediatric First Aid is a hard but rewarding experience. Helping a child in distress or pain is an especially admirable talent and one that all parents or childminders should ideally know. If you want to help children in case of accidents or emergencies, taking this paediatric first aid course can be really helpful. 

This course will teach you the basics of first aid, focusing particularly on how to provide first aid to children. You will learn the aims of first aid and understand the roles and responsibilities of a first aider. Moreover, you will develop skills in creating an emergency plan and conducting a primary survey in order to assess the situation. Topics covered in this course will include resuscitation techniques, the paediatric chain of survival, CPR and the use of an AED for children and infants. You will learn how to handle conscious choking, control external bleeding, and how to provide first aid for various situations such as infants’ nose bleedings, head wounds, burns and poisoning.

Upon successfully completing this paediatric First Aid course, you will know how to interact with a young casualty, how to keep them calm, and when to call an emergency. This course will give you important information to keep children and babies safe from illnesses and potentially life-threatening conditions.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completing this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Recognise the objectives of first aid and its significance during emergencies.
  • Understand the functions and duties of a first responder.
  • Create a reliable emergency plan that can handle a range of scenarios.
  • Survey the casualty to determine their condition and determine their priority for treatment.
  • Show that you understand how to perform resuscitations. 
  • Recognise the pediatric survival chain.
  • Employ the proper methods to treat infants and children who are conscious of choking.
  • Show that you know how to stop external bleeding and how to treat specific injuries, including burns, poisoning, head injuries, and baby nosebleeds.

Requirements

There is no formal entry requirement for this CPD Accredited course. However, learners pursuing to enrol for this course should meet the following conditions:

  • Be age 16 years or above
  • Solid knowledge of the English Language
  • Working Knowledge of Information Communication Technologies for studying online that is the Internet and Microsoft Office
  • A genuine desire to study and succeed

Who is This Course For?

This course is suitable for individuals associated with childminders, preschool workers, paediatric nurses, nursery teachers, primary teachers, early years settings, and many more. It is also useful for individuals who desire to provide first aid to all possible casualties.

Assessment

After studying through the training manual, Learner will have to attempt Final Test (online multiple-choice test – 2 attempts), if necessary, may attempt the test third times at no extra cost. Your test will be assessed automatically and straightaway so that you will directly know whether you have been successful or not. The passing score is 80%. You can retake the test in the case of not being successful at the first attempt.

Before attempting your Final Test, you will have the opportunity to test your proficiency with a Mock Test (online multiple-choice test – Unlimited attempts).

All test(s) / Assessment(s) are online and are taken either through or after the course; these are included in the course price.
