A qualification is an official recognition of learning that can only be awarded by an authorised awarding body regulated by a government organisation.
In the UK, the most commonly seen regulator is Ofqual, which oversees academic and vocational qualifications in England. Other regions have their own regulators:
- Qualifications Wales – for qualifications in Wales
- CCEA Regulation – for qualifications in Northern Ireland
Each regulator maintains a list of the qualifications it recognises. If you want a qualification recognised in multiple regions, each regulator makes its own decision.
